Forming a sentence using past continuous tense
Subject + was/were + verb(…ing) + object
Past continuous tense expresses an action that was continuing at a particular time in the past. The action started before that particular time and had not ended at that time mentioned in the sentence.
- She was cooking when I telephoned her
- We were having dinner when it started to rain
- What was he doing when u saw him?
For singular subjects we use ‘was’, and for plural nouns we use ‘were’.
