Reflexive Pronouns

Reflexive pronouns are words that refer back to the subject of the verb. The words myself, ourselves, yourself, yourselves, himself, herself, themselvesand itself are reflexive pronouns. Reflexive pronouns are used when both the subject and the object of the verb are the same person, animal or thing. In other words, the object reflects the subject. Look at the following examples. The subjects of the verbs are in bold and the reflexive pronouns are in orange colour.

  • Asma cut herself while cutting the vegetables.
  • John looked at himself in the mirror.
  • I don’t want to make a fool of myself.
  • The players train everyday to keep themselves fit.
